‘In 500 Words or Less’ serves as a portrait of four of the nearly 1.5 million families who go through this process each year.

While race, geography and socio-economic status affected how they got here, their stories converge as they all juggle acceptance, rejection, decision-making and letting go.

It’s been over a year since we started filming our nine high school seniors, and we just finished our last shoots with them. It’s bittersweet; we’re sad to be out of their lives, but happy to see them starting an exciting, new journey.

Our final shoot was with Molly at her going away party thrown by her mother. The weather was perfect and the food delicious, but Molly was anxious about leaving for college. We kept the camera rolling and watched as Molly mentally prepared herself for college, with a mixture of both excitement and apprehension. We wish you the best, Molly!
